Weekend ride

SATURDAY

Had some good news friday, didn't have to go into work saturday! So planned to do last years winter warmer route run and ride put on. Its a lumpy route which takes you in and out of cannock chase. I offered Tom who ive met through run and ride if he fancied it, Tom rides for Newport and raced cat 4 last year only missing cat 3 by 2points. Its good to go out with people like tom so I know the sort of standard I need to be at when racing. Trouble is hes been on his honeymoon the last 2 months and not done so much on the bike.

The Ride
I met up with Tom at run and ride at 8.30 in the morning, weather was dry and a little on the cold side but its the best weekend we have for a while. He informed me that dave was also joining us and when he arrived we was off. Its a lumpy route but the biggest tester was coal pit lane that enters cannock chase from rugeley. To my surprise I wasn't hanging on to the back of tom or dave wheel, instead I was dropping them both with not much effort which was strange for me. I had been on the bike a lot more than tom and hes put on a few kilo after his honeymoon but it shows what difference a good winter could give you. At the top dave decided to go as he wasn't feeling good. Me and Tom cracked and we pushed on the last of the climbs was back into the chase from bocton its a steep hill and the start and it carries on steady for a mile or so. Last year I would of been blowing out of my arse, but today I just felt good. It was a good ride 60 mile in the legs, 3500ft elevation and stayed dry.

SUNDAY
I jumped on a group workout on zwift, 45min low cadence at around 70rpm. I decided to set up the turbo in the kitchen which was a bad idea, just as I got started the radiator kicked in. It felt like my body was melting to the floor not a great session.

The week ahead im at run and ride tues, that will be a hard workout sprints or something! Thursday night will be an easy zwift session at home. Saturday is race day, im shitting it to be honest! I can be a very nervous guy you my stomach will be like a washing machine in the morning, come 14.10 I hope ill be a lot better. Ill probably do the next blog after the race.
