woolly mamil round 2

Woolly Mamil round 2
Pre-race
It was damp day but not as cold as last week. When I arrive the first thing I do is sign on and check what time we start. I handed in my licence then recieve a number (57) and chip to stick on my fork, I remembered to some cutters this week to rid of the zip tie end. The lady informs me theres a 30min delay which left plenty of time to soak in the atmosphere and warm up. Whilst I set up the turbo and warm up the wife and son go and have coffee in the clubhouse, I really like this circuit for the cafe and relaxed atmosphere good for the family also shelter if the weather is shat. My ambition for this week is to finish in the pack, after my warm up off to the start line ended up at the back not ideal.

The Race
Like I said I started at the back and as the lady blew this whistle I tried to gain some places to get into the middle of group. The speed from the off was mad, a rider was off the front within a lap then 1st and 2nd from last week joined him shortly. By the fourth lap the two who came first and second from last week was up the road and bunch was chasing hard. As this happened riders was dropping out of the pack unfortunately I was one of them. We cornered the bend and hit the uphill I dropped out last time only this time it happened sooner in the race. The sight of the group leaving you behind and slowly distancing you is horrid, the thought of racing round the track on your own for 30min is worse. I carried on,there was no hope of catching the group but there was a couple of riders falling out the back so I set my sights on getting up to them. Each lap I would pass a rider who had dropped off and all but gave up. Some of them just pulled into the pits and the wife told me on of those got a telling off by the organiser for swearing, apparenlty his words was "fucking hell thats a lot faster than last week". I soldiered on a caught up with a rider who sat on my wheel for a few laps, I thought why dont you come round and give me a turn. It wasn't until my dad (comes to take photos) shouts "take turns you might catch em". He obliged and gave me a few turns but after a few laps he blew up and we got lapped by the two leaders. Then the group went passed when I was out on my own again. I seen the lap board go up and I was determined not to get lapped again and on the last lap I just stayed in front of the leaders when they finished. I was absolutely exhausted when I finished and whilst I was blowing out of my arse, a chap gave me some advise on cornering and keeping my inside foot up rather than down.

Aftermath/Result
Gutted to be lapped but happy with the effort and the will to keep going. It was hard work but I think it was a good experience mainly as I dont want to be dropped on my own again. We got back to the car and my dad had brought some soup in a flask (carrot and coriander) it was a warm welcome and tasted amazing. It isnt till the next day you find out your place and I came 20/29. 5 dnf which I did see a few just give up. Hopefully next week ill play it a bit better. Im also down to do another f.t.p at run and ride tuesday so ill drop a page on that wednesday. My last result was 257w (3.15w/kg). Lets see if theres any improvement.
